Fear and Misery in the Third Reich
Originally produced in May of 1938 as a nineteen scene piece by Slatan Dudow's semi-amateur theatre troupe in Paris, the play evolved. Later that year, a version which included an additional eight scenes was created for performance in Prague. In 1945, it was published with twenty-four scenes. The English translation was done by John Willett.
The Private Life of the Master Race
In 1945, this American edition was produced at UC Berkeley. The translation was by Eric Bentley. Brecht was living in America at the time, and the performance was attended by a number of UN officials. A recent, notable performance occurred in spring of 2006 in New York City, when the Roust Theater Company produced a new translation by Binyamin Shalom.
